Privacy Policy

Last updated: [DATE]

Scam Caller Check ("we", "us") operates a community-driven directory for looking up and reporting suspicious phone numbers and email addresses. This page explains what information we collect, why, and how it's handled.

What we collect

  • Report content. When you submit a report, we store the phone number or email you're reporting, the category and description you provide, an optional amount lost, an optional evidence file (screenshot or audio recording), and the date it occurred. This content is shown publicly on the site.
  • Account information, if you sign in. We use passwordless email sign-in (a one-time code sent to your inbox). If you sign in, your reports and disputes are linked to your account and shown as "verified reporter" rather than anonymous. We don't collect or store a password.
  • IP address, in hashed form only. When you submit a report or dispute, we store a one-way cryptographic hash of your IP address — not the address itself — salted so it can't be reversed. We use this to enforce rate limits (max 5 posts per 24 hours per IP) and to detect the same person submitting many disputes against one listing. We do not store, display, or share raw IP addresses.
  • Dispute information. If you file a dispute (e.g. claiming a number was spoofed and isn't really yours), we collect your stated reason and a contact email so we can follow up.
  • Anti-abuse verification. Report and dispute submissions are checked with Cloudflare Turnstile, a captcha alternative. Cloudflare may process technical signals (like your IP address) as part of that check, under Cloudflare's own privacy policy.

What we don't do

  • We don't sell your personal information.
  • We don't display your email address, sign-in status, or raw IP address publicly.
  • We don't send analytics platforms or ad networks the actual phone number or email address you searched or reported — search and report actions may be counted in aggregate, but not tied to the specific number/email involved.

Advertising and analytics

This site may show ads served by Google AdSense and may use Google Analytics to understand aggregate traffic patterns. Both, where enabled, may use cookies or similar technology in your browser. You can control ad personalization through Google's Ads Settings. [If a cookie-consent banner is required in your region and not yet implemented, note that here.]

How long we keep information

Reports and disputes are kept while they remain relevant to the listing they're attached to. Listings with no report in over a year stop being shown in search results and browsing, though the underlying record isn't automatically deleted. You can request deletion of content tied to your account by contacting us (below).

Your choices

  • You can submit reports anonymously — an account is never required to report or search.
  • You can request a correction or removal of a listing via the "Someone used my number/email — request review" dispute flow on any listing page.
  • You can ask us to delete your account and its associated sign-in data by contacting us.
